Another AMAZING cake by Christopher Chavez from Cake Occasions!

What a beautiful cake Chris made just a few weeks ago for a couple who married at St Mary’s Cathedral in Sydney and then had their reception at Sergeants’ Mess at Chowder Bay.

The cake was based on their wedding invitation, which was black and gold.

TWE asked Christopher what inspired him to design the cake:

“I work closely with the bride and groom and get a feel for what they are trying to achieve in the styling of the event.

This particular couple had a black, ivory and gold colour scheme. Their invitation was black and embossed in gold and was very spectacular in a quite simplistic way. I tried to carry this through to the cake.

The gold rings on the cake were taken from the motif on the invitation, which represented infinity.

I suggested the use of succulents, as they are a nice change from sweet, girly sugar flowers and gave the cake a bit of lift.

I work by instinct and sometimes things just come to me and I give it a go.”

TWE caught up with Carina Brezeanu from Say Dream to get the inside info on this fabulous Styling & Stationery supplier.

Tell us about Say Dream:

Say Dream covers event styling, including floral design, we specialize in weddings and also offer couture handmade stationery.

What inspired you to start your business?

I had been making couture stationery for many, many years in my own time while I was a student and then while working in the corporate world. Eventually the clients I worked with started asking for other services relating to their events – flower design, lighting, etc, and I started getting involved with styling and design.

I decided to start Say Dream about 3 1/2 years ago as demand for styling services grew. I studied interior decorating for some time and have always loved working with spaces, so this seemed a natural progression.

Styling is now the core business of Say Dream – although I still love creating that perfect, unique invitation for a couple and carrying the look all the way through their wedding day.

What makes Say Dream unique?

We offer a full design service for anything to do with the aesthetics of an event. We concentrate on the client and create a complete look that is representative of them.

Our products are often custom-made or sourced from all over the world and often what you will find at Say Dream you won’t find anywhere else.

We are highly flexible and will work to whatever suits our clients. There is no prescription, all our services are 100% tailored to each client.

How do you keep in touch with the ever-changing trends in the Bridal industry?

A lot of my time is spent doing research. Most of this research is done online but I am addicted to wedding magazines and have a vast collection of gorgeous publications from all over the world. Once a year I take a trip overseas and research the world of events and weddings in that country – last year I went to France for 2 weeks and came home with tons of incredible ideas. New York is on the cards for this year. I also keep an eye on interior design/decorating trends as I find that this helps with creating new and innovative ideas.

How would you describe your Style?

Uncomplicated, but cool and sophisticated. I try to stay away from the norm and create something unique, while still being fashion-forward.

Who & what inspires you and keeps you passionate about your work?

I am inspired by other creative minds (not necessarily in the wedding industry) and have an extensive list of design blogs that I read and always go a little crazy over. I love anything to do with interior styling so I tend to be inspired by current and past trends in interior design, not just events. Fashion also inspires me. Having a broad understanding of style and design and how different elements work together is very important for a designer, so I don’t limit myself to the wedding industry.

What is your best piece of advice you would like to give to Brides?

Don’t be afraid to do something different if it expresses who you are.
